FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME
With two young children I am always looking for fun ways to eat well during the summertime. Making nice cream isn’t just a healthy alternative it’s a family project for all ages. From selecting the ingredients to doing a quick blender dance together ~ nice cream making is just as fun as winter baking on a rainy day. In our house we go nanas for berries, we’ve been using a brand of frozen berries in containers (instead of plastic bags); yes the containers are still plastic but they are excellent for organising craft and sewing supplies plus they are sleek and completely stackable, so its made buying berries slightly more sustainable.
My children love to see the steps of making and mixing food, together we taste all the individual ingredients - we talk about taste, texture, packaging, origin of each food, how its grown, who grows it and even how it is sold - and with each step they get to see how to make the whole recipe. This is great for kids with any nutritional challenges, I’ve always found that when children are part of the process the end result is more exciting for them.
Each day I always find ways to increase the nutritional density of everything we consume as a family. Here we added AXIS PhytoReds for extra pow ~ this supplement is packed with phytonutrient fruit & veggies including raspberry, grape, açai, strawberry, pomegranate, blackberry, blueberry, tomato, carrot & beetroot. This is an optional addition, but I personally find that with small ones the opportunity to boost recommended dietary intake of vital vitamins and minerals is a must for all of us; it supports our immune systems and give the children a wider variety of fruits and vegetables.
